Leg Massage Tutorial 1/4

Preparation
  • Wash the feet with showergel (apply it on a wet washcloth)
  • Rinse the feet with water (with a wet washcloth, no showergel)
  • Put two warm towels(hot compresses) on each leg and apply pressure at several points on the leg
  • Apply massage oil and spread it over both legs.
------------------------------------------------------

Everything has to be done 3 times, unless otherwise stated.

Backside of the leg
Done with two hands symmetrically to both sides of the leg.
1. Effleurage entire leg
-          Longitudinal effleurage of the lower leg, from heel to popliteal space/fossa (backside of the knee).
-          Then when you get to the knee you relax your hands.
-          Continue the movement by doing a crosswise effleurage of the upper leg (the thigh)
-          Gently touch the skin at the sides of the leg with your fingertips as you make your way down.
2.  Intermittent pushing entire leg 1x
-          Take up the tissue with open hand from the sides. (1.)
-          Clap together your hands with the thumbs against each other. (1.)
-          Apply pressure with your thenar(the thumb side of the palm of your hand), hold for 8 seconds. (2.)
-          Clap open your hands. (3.)
-          Do this all way down to leg, from tight to ankle.
-          Except for the popliteal space/fossa, don’t apply pressure there but do keep contact with the skin.
Continue with the:   Upper leg (tigh)
1.      Effleurage thigh
-          Perform a crosswise effleurage.
-          Touch the skin lightly with your fingertips as you go down the upperleg.
2.      Hand-over- hand Effleurage
-          Stand at the side of the leg.
-          Start at the popliteal space/fossa.
-          The hand you begin with is the hand closest to the popliteal space/fossa.
-          You follow with the other hand.
-          End at the butt with that hand (the hand closest to the butt)
-          You have to make 3 of these movements (6 strokes) each time.
-          You do this over the inside of the leg, upside of the leg and the outside of the leg.
3.      Petrissage innerside
-          Pick up the muscle at the popliteal fossa/space (innerside of the leg) with the pinky side of your hands.
-          With the thumb side of your other hand you apply counter-pressure.
-          You take over the muscle with the pinky side of that other hand.
-          Keep doing this till you can’t go any further, so when you reach the butt.
-          Come back by touching the skin lightly.
4.      Walkaround: Petrissage outerside
-          The same as above (3.), but with the muscle on the outerside of the leg.
5.      Thumb-effleurage/Thumb-rotation/Thumb-effleurage (W-effleurage)
-          Form a W with your hands and skim up (with pressure).
-          Touch the skin on the sides lightly with your fingertips as you make your way down again.
-          Then after 1 W-effleurage you go further with the W-rotation: Again hands form a W, but you move alternately. Do end symmetrically though.
-          Then do a W-effleurage again.
-          1 = W-effleurage, W-rotation, W-effleurage
6.      Tapotements: zie verplichte grepen 1x
-          Battre/Cupping:  Hold the tips of your thumb and indexfinger together. The sound that you make with cupping is very important.
-          Hacking: Relax your hands as you you hack.
-          Fist
-          Everything has to be done in a S-shape. Start at the popliteal space/fossa, go to the butt and end at the popliteal space. And then you do it backwards. So eventually you end where you started.
7.      Hand-over-hand Effleurage
8.      Shaking: start at/right under the butt
-          Pick up the tissue near the butt with two hands and then shake your way down.
